The Base block provides the basic connections for your Intel Edison board. It has two micro USB ports on it. One of them offers OTG support, it allows you to attach different peripherals like a key board, mouse, or thumb drive. The other allows you to access Edison's console from your computer, by making USB to serial conversion through FT231X.
